St John's College Prizegiving 2010
Greetings to you families & friends!
It's the time of the year that schools are conducting their annual Prize Giving signalling the end of the academic year 2010. We had ours last weekend.
The Chief Guest was the Hon. High Commissioner of Nauru to Fiji. This was an ideal opportunity for us to acknowledge the contribution of the Nauru givernment to the school. For the past 7 years we've had more than 30 students from Nauru schooling here in Cawaci. They make up the bulk of the regional students enrolling at the school. Then there are smaller number of students from PNG, Tuvalu, Kiribati, and hopefully some students from Tonga next year. The Dux of the school went to our Head Girl, Marlaina Aroi, a student from Nauru. Interestingly, she also took out the award for the Best Overall Student, which is the Dr.Fred Sevele Trophy. The level of competitions are quite high as we have also Indian & Chinese students. Hence, if anyone can beat those then that student must be really good! The day was filled with laughters and joy as different ethnic groups display their best cultural items. We concluded the day with an open air dance, much to the delight of the students, teachers, parents, ex-scholars, and friends of the school! So this week and the weeks to come the focus will be on our external exams. May I take this opportunity to thank each and everyone of you for your continuous support for St.John's College. May I mention here that the Ministry of Education has renewed my contract for the next 3 years, meaning that I'll carry on here as long as I'm needed! Last but not the least, please keep our exam students in your prayers.
'Ofa atu & hufaki.
