Sr Magdalen's Golden Jubilee
Kia ora e te whanau,

We celebrated my sister Sr Magdalen's Golden Jubilee as a Sister of Compassion on Motuti Marae in the North Hokianga on 20 March. Motuti is about 5 hours drive north of Auckland. Sr Magdalen is based there working with Pa Henare Tate establishing a museum/cultural centre. Motuti is a significant site for Catholics as the remains of the first Catholic Bishop, Bishop Pompallier, are kept in a casket under the altar of the little church Hata Maria. The site of the first Mass, Totara Point, is also nearby.

We were blessed to be joined on our journey by Isa'ake, Pelenatita and Taniela. A highlight of the celebration was the beautiful tapa'i ngatu made by Lotiola from Tonga that graced the wall of the whare kai during the feast following the moving service and renewal of vows in the wharenui.

This was a joyful celebration with many of the local people of Hokianga atending as well as religious of many denominations.

I have uploaded a few photos to the album but have failed miserably in inserting one or two into this news item - help!
